Having endured a long winter marred by threats and racial taunts, Hank Aaron needed just one swing of the bat to tie perhaps the most sacred record in sports. Encapsulated and Graded VG-EX Authentic by PSA, this stub was issued at Cincinnati’s Riverfront Stadium for the April 4, 1974 season opener in which Aaron tied Babe Ruth’s mark of 714 career circuit clouts. The “Club Box” voucher features printed seating/event details, as well as a likeness of the Queen City venue and a Reds team logo. With sharp edges/corners, a clean reverse and strong perforations, this one appears much better than the opined technical assessment. Additionally, this keepsake almost “never was,” as Atlanta Braves management wanted to bench Aaron for the entire three-game series so he could tie and break Ruth’s record at home. Commissioner Bowie Kuhn, however, ruled against that, demanding that Aaron play in at least two of the games in Cincinnati.
