Description

Inked to a five-year $21 million deal at the start of the 2012 campaign, Cleveland Indians backstop Carlos Santana endured the rigors of life behind the plate and hit 18 home runs despite spending a portion of the season on the disabled list. These items were worn and autographed by the Dominican-born catcher during that 2012 season. Includes:

Signed Game-Used Bat: a Louisville Slugger (32.2-oz/33-3/4”) “S391” block-letter model with a black “Smith” finish and silver-colored barrel stampings. Between the manufacturer’s decal and barrel stampings, Santana has signed in silver marker (“8” strength) and inscribed “41 – game used 2012.” The uncracked maple weapon exhibits evidence of moderate use with ball, bat-rack and deeply embedded stitch marks about the hitting surface, as well as an 11” layer of black athletic tape extending from the knob to the handle’s upper portion.

Signed Game-Worn Chest Protector the “TPX” accessory features multiple padded cells covered in blue and gray cloth with red accents. Two shoulder patches are fastened with Velcro strips and a padded throat guard features “CS 41” embroidered in white. On the front padded portion, Santana has signed in black marker (“8” strength) and inscribed “41 – game used 2012.” The item shows heavy game use with turf stains throughout and straps intact.

Signed Game-Worn Shin Guards a pair of “TPX” blue plastic protective accessories with red accents, interior padding and fastening straps. On the front of each, Santana has signed in silver marker (both “8-9” strength) and inscribed “41 – game used 2012.” These show heavy game use with caked dirt and multiple scrapes about both knee portions. Attached are “Easton” knee saver pads with “41” screened in white numerals.

Signed Game-Worn Catcher’s Mask a “TPX” protective accessory with curved red steel bars and thick padded inserts for both the jaw and forehead. On the interior of the upper pad, Santana has signed in black marker (“7” strength) and inscribed “41 – game used 2012.” Solid game use is evident with soiling about the interior padding and fastening straps intact.

Signed Game-Worn Shoes: a pair of black mesh-lined accessories with red-black-and-white leather accents. The “H2R” size “11” shoes each features nine metal cleats affixed to a thick plastic bottom, while each is signed on the toe portion (“9” strength) and inscribed “games used 2012.” Moderate wear is evident with infield dirt caked about the cleat portions.

(3) Signed Baseballs: each is a snow-white OML orb (grade “10”) signed on the sweet spot in blue ballpoint. The autographs all project (“10”) strength and are accompanied by “#41” inscriptions.

(5) Signed Photographs: 8x10 color prints of Santana batting in his Indians home attire; each is signed in black marker (all “10” strength) and inscribed “41.”
